Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is readying a travel bubble scenario for leaders and delegates scheduled to attend the G20 summit, given the current trend of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Communications and Information Technology Minister Johnny Gerard Plate had stated that 150 meetings will be held in 19 cities in Indonesia and involve 20,988 delegates. On account of the grand scale of event, the travel bubble scenario would be adjusted in accordance with the trend of the pandemic. The scenario was considered the right measure to maintain the effectiveness of handling the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Plate delivered the statement here on Monday, January 24.

The minister expects Omicron cases to peak soon and thereafter decline, to which end the government could take more apposite policies or measures regarding the organization of national events.

Currently, the government has appointed a spokesperson for the G20 Presidency. Indonesia has segregated the discussion at the forum into two themes: the Sherpa Track and Financial Track.

The Sherpa Track discusses non-financial economic issues ranging from energy, development, tourism, digital economy, education, labor, agriculture, trade, investment, industry, health, anti-corruption, and environment, to climate change.

The Financial Track prioritizes six issues related to the economy, such as exit policies for global economic recovery after the pandemic, impact of COVID-19 on the real sector, digital payment systems, sustainable finance, financial inclusion, and international taxation. He remarked that the Sherpa Track discussion will be led by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto as the appointed spokesperson or chairman, while Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi fills the seat of deputy chairman.

On the other hand, the Financial Track discussion will be led by Finance Minister Sri Mulyani as its chairman, and the deputy chairman being Governor of Bank Indonesia Ferry Warjiyo.

Aspects related to general information and communication about the event will be handled by Minister Plate. Head of Presidential Staff Moeldoko will handle special issues related to presidential policies from the Presidential Palace.

The main agenda of Indonesia's G20 presidency will focus on three areas: transition to sustainable energy, the world health system, and economic and digital transformation.

The G20 summit will take place in Bali on October 2022.
