It must be a concern for all stakeholders.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s score in the 2021 Corruption Perception Index (IPK) should serve as a basis for improving public service and strengthening the government’s integrity and credibility to expedite economic recovery, the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) head has said.

According to Transparency International, Indonesia's IPK increased from 37 in 2020 to 38 in 2021, boosting its rank from 102 to 96, Moeldoko noted.

"The achievement is according to President Joko Widodo’s directives to all levels of the government to strive in implementing good governance and fair law enforcement even in the midst of the pandemic,” he remarked, according to a press release issued here on Tuesday.

Out of the 9 composite indexes which make up the IPK, Indonesia experienced a decline in 3 index sources, showed stagnant progress in 3 other index sources, and got a significant increase in the rest of the index sources, he noted.

Indonesia also showed a significant increase in the World Economic Forum, Global Insight, and Institute for Management Development’s World Competitiveness indexes, he informed.

Although Indonesia’s IPK has increased, the country is still facing a challenge in changing public perception of corruption within the government, Moeldoko said.

“Moreover, bribery in the licensing process, low integrity of the bureaucratic apparatus and law enforcers, as well as money politics are the causes of our poor performance in corruption eradication attempts and perception index. It must be a concern for all stakeholders," he emphasized.

Furthermore, deputy V of the KSP, Jaleswari Pramodhawardani, said that the stagnant indicators related to law enforcement apparatus, politics, democracy, and the bureaucracy aspects need to be improved to increase Indonesia's IPK.

"The scores of these indicators are declining. Thus, they must be improved in the future," she stated.

She assured that the government and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will continue to strive to improve the corruption prevention system, governance of exports and imports of strategic commodities, identity card number (NIK) management, as well as goods and services procurement digitization.

"In addition, it is important to strengthen public service complaint channels," she added.
