This is because I received several complaints from teachers that remote learning has hugely affected children's education
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The evaluation of offline or face-to-face learning should take into account as many indicators as possible, including the children's health, according to House of Representatives' (DPR's) Speaker Puan Maharani.

In her statement here on Wednesday, Maharani expressed hope that the evaluation of face-to-face learning would prioritize the health aspect of children.

However, the speaker noted that the children's cognitive needs should also be taken into account.

"This is because I received several complaints from teachers that remote learning has hugely affected children's education," she added.

To this end, Maharani advised the government to involve several stakeholders in evaluating face-to-face learning.

The House speaker assessed that the involvement of several related parties could help the government understand the students' various needs and interests, including by involving the representatives of parents and teachers.

"Thus, apart from epidemiologists, we have to seek inputs from parties that interact with children every day," she stated.

The house speaker also emphasized that the health aspect must be the priority indicator during the evaluation, as the safety of children must be of utmost importance.

"The results of the evaluation will give an answer regarding the necessity of implementing face-to-face learning, especially amid the increasing cases of COVID-19 transmission in Indonesia," she stated.

In addition, she pressed for the acceleration of COVID-19 vaccinations, including among children, to offer added protection to all children in Indonesia against the dangers of COVID-19.

Maharani urged the community to remain alert, comply with health protocols, and avoid conducting activities outside the home if no urgent matters had to be tended to.

"Hopefully, we would always remain healthy. Together, we can curb COVID-19 transmission in this country by following health protocols," she remarked.
