Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) expressed its readiness to construct some 2,500 housing units for government employees stationed in the new capital in East Kalimantan, a government official stated.

"The PUPR Ministry, at a coordination meeting, confirmed its readiness to construct 2,500 housing units to accommodate the first batch of state apparatus and the military and police officers relocating to the new capital," Presidential Staff Office's (KSP's) Deputy I Febry Calvin Tetelepta noted in a KSP press statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

Tetelepta remarked that on account of financial limitations, housing units readied by the ministry will be sufficient for only around one-third of all personnel that will relocate to the new capital in the first arrival batch.

"The PUPR Ministry's budget is sufficient only to construct 2,500 units, while the first batch of government employees relocating to the new capital will reach around seven thousand personnel," the deputy noted.

The government is currently conceiving new funding schemes to complement the budget required to construct the necessary number of housing units, he confirmed.

"The government is currently probing other possible funding sources (for the construction), with some possible schemes being government-business cooperation or empowerment of private and state-owned enterprises," Tetelepta remarked.

The deputy noted that according to preliminary data of the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency, a total of 7,687 government employees will be part of the first relocation batch arriving in the new capital.

The government employees include 1,971 civil apparatus of government ministries and institutions and 5,716 military and police officers from the presidential security force, the National Intelligence Agency, and other security agencies, he added.

"The number is not finalized yet, and the KSP will encourage the government to finalize the number promptly because we also need to allocate government employees to their office location," Tetelepta noted.
