Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Health Office reported that the COVID-19 patient recovery percentage within the capital city had reached 92.8 percent, with 5,798 people having recovered within the last week or until Friday.

"The total number of people, who had recovered stood at 883,377, with the recovery rate at 92.8 percent," Head of the Jakarta Health Office's Disease Prevention and Handling Dwi Oktavia noted on Saturday.

As compared to last week or on Saturday, January 29, the recovery rate reached 95.8 percent. However, the number of recoveries is lower, at only 1,777 people.

Despite this, the recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in Jakarta is categorized as high, at above 90 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Jakarta is currently pegged at 20 percent, a significant increase as compared to the last two weeks on Saturday, January 22, which reached 5.8 percent.

"We urge residents to be wary of the Omicron variant infection currently on the rise in Jakarta. The 3T (testing, tracing, and treatment) should be continued in addition to COVID-19 vaccination," she remarked.

This surge in the number of COVID-19 positive cases exceeds the limit set by the World Health Organization (WHO), with five percent as the ideal limit.

The Jakarta provincial government recorded that within the last week, some 283,825 people underwent the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) swab test, with 20 percent of the result coming out positive until Friday.

The peak of Jakarta's COVID-19 positive case surge is also driven by the number of people that underwent the PCR swab test from WHO's target per week that reached 10,645 tests while the latest data show that the total number of tests in Jakarta had reached 283,825.

Oktavia added that WHO's test target is to have one thousand people take the PCR test per one million population per week. Hence, WHO's target for Jakarta is to have 10,645 people tested per week at the least.

Jakarta exceeded this target a while back. Within the last week, around 283,825 had been tested.

"Meanwhile, Jakarta's total PCR testing has now reached 803,622 per one million population," she stated.

According to the Jakarta Health Office's data, the number of COVID-19 daily cases increased by 13,179, leading to a total of 952,371 cases.
