At the G20 kick-off on Education and Culture here on Wednesday, the minister expressed optimism that Indonesia would inspire developed and developing nations and work in mutual partnerships with them.
The minister announced priority agendas for education and culture that would be pushed by the Indonesian government at the G20 event.
"There are four priority agendas in the education sector that we will strive for as leaders of the G20 Education Working Group, and later, during the summit with the education ministers. First, Quality Universal Education. Second, Digital Technology for Education. Third, Solidarity and Partnership. Fourth, the future of the world of work after COVID-19," the minister elaborated.
In the field of culture, Makarim affirmed that Indonesia had invited the world to encourage culturally-based sustainable living practices and the creation of a global consensus to achieve it.
"An arts and culture conference will be held for recovery and a summit with cultural ministers in the Borobudur Temple area," he revealed.

According to Makarim, Indonesia's G20 presidency would become a momentum for the country to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and to showcase the nation's extraordinary character.
"One of the basic values of our nation, specifically mutual cooperation, is increasingly important to help us and the world to recover and revive," he remarked.
The minister has called on world leaders and citizens to deliver real and meaningful actions.
"Let us make the G20 theme 'Recover Together, Recover Stronger' a real and meaningful action. With the spirit to recover and revive together, I would like to invite everyone to strengthen mutual cooperation, so that we can succeed during Indonesia's G20 presidency and realize the Freedom of Learning, Freedom of Culture," he noted.
The minister kicked off the G20 in education and culture by removing the "Gunungan," a figure that symbolizes mountains in Javanese shadow puppetry.
The Gunungan describes life in the universe. Removing the Gunungan symbolizes a switch in the situation in which humans struggle and strive to change the course of their lives.
The Gunungan depicted in the G20 logo signifies the enthusiasm and optimism of the Indonesian people, especially to revive from the pandemic and start a new chapter of life.
