Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Constitutional Court (MK) has vowed to improve the judicial system to better respond to public complaints and justice seekers by developing technology-based courts, Chief Justice Anwar Usman stated here on Thursday.

"Since MK was established, it has entrenched the implementation of a modern, fast, and simple judiciary," Usman stated during a virtual MK Special Plenary Session.

The chief justice noted that rapid developments in information technology had brought about changes in several aspects of life, with the law enforcement or the legal field too undergoing such transformations.

The development of IT has noticeably transformed public services or access of the judiciary itself, according to Usman.

To this end, the judiciary's digital transformation is the MK's endeavor to more ably respond to complaints of the justice-seeking community.

Usman pointed out that several justice seekers often highlighted the complex litigation process, ambiguous legal procedures, as well as the time and costs involved in solving a case.

Consequently, several communities were hesitant to use the services of the judiciary. Hence, this condition has drawn attention to the importance of making the legal procedures in the MK more modern, Usman remarked.

The endeavors to modernize MK's judicial system were realized by the construction of supporting facilities and infrastructure for the sake of better governance in case handling and trials, Usman remarked.

The MK has two main characteristics: firstly, a judiciary system that is based on information, communication, and technology; and secondly, a judiciary with human resources that has a good mindset and "cultural set."

"Both characteristics are modern and reliable benchmarks that are actualized in several conditions," the sixth Chief Justice of MK remarked.

Furthermore, he explained that by applying these two characteristics, the judicial process can cut short the procedure time for handling cases and avoid the practices of corruption, collusion, and nepotism.
