This is the result of donations collected from Indonesian Scouts
Lumajang, East Java (ANTARA) - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa on Friday inaugurated 50 temporary shelters built by the East Java Scouts for victims of the Mount Semeru eruption in Sumbermujur village, Lumajang district, East Java.

"This is the first inauguration of temporary shelters in this area," Parawansa said here on Friday.

She also thanked the East Java Scouts, especially the Indonesian Scouts in Lumajang district.

"Please take care of these shelters. Do not get tired to give dedication to our community. Thank you for all the sincere service from East Java Scouts," she remarked.

Meanwhile, the deputy head of Lumajang district, Indah Amperawati, said that the temporary shelters were built by the Scouts using a donation of Rp1.6 billion collected by the Indonesian Scouts from several areas, which was fully utilized to build a temporary shelter.

"This is the result of donations collected from Indonesian Scouts and so far, it has reached Rp1.6 billion. In the first stage, 19 temporary residential lots were built and today it has been completed by 90 percent," she informed.

Technically, one temporary shelter was built by 10 Scouts, so approximately 190 Scouts were involved in building 19 temporary shelters in the first phase, she noted.

The Lumajang district government is targeting to settle people affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru on December 4, 2021, at the relocation site before Ramadan, she informed.

The provision of public facilities such as electricity, clean water, and sanitation channels will be completed in April 2022, she said.

Under the first phase, 208 temporary shelters and 353 permanent residences have been built so far, with the district government expediting construction efforts, she added.
