Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has said that he wants the young Indonesian Muslim generation to compete at the global level so that they can become role models, not just "watchers."

"Indonesian Muslim youths should be a role model for the world's Muslim generation, meaning they are moderate, tolerant, globally competitive, and developed," Amin remarked at the 8th commencement of the Bani Fattah Islamic Studies Institute (IAIBAFA) for the 2021–2022 academic year. He joined the event from his official residence, here on Saturday.

According to Amin, there are several things that the younger generation must pay attention to in order to thrive in society.

First, tolerance is key to a harmonious life amidst the nation's plurality, he said. "This value must continue to be implemented; do not abandon our national values, because it is our identity as Indonesians," the Vice President remarked.

Second, international developments need to be noted while formulating domestic policies in the country, he said.

"Problems in one country can affect other countries in a short period of time. (The comprehension of) domestic and global issues are skills that (the young generation) must master," Amin explained.

He also expressed the hope that the younger generation would not give up on gaining knowledge because top leaders are born from tireless experience and learning.

"However, all these things still need to be completed with noble morals. Do not stop learning. In fact, learning is for life, it does not stop in school and college only," he affirmed.

He then urged IAIBAFA graduates to become entrepreneurs to open more jobs.

According to Amin, entrepreneurship is in line with the government's priority of developing sharia economy and finance to realize just and inclusive welfare.

Many experts are needed in the sharia economic and finance sector to develop contemporary fiqh for the future, he added.
