Our trade balance has recorded a surplus for 21 consecutive months.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's trade balance recorded a surplus of US$930 million in January 2022, with an export value of $19.16 billion and imports worth $18.23 billion, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS).
The amount of the surplus has increased 25.31 percent year-on-year.
"Our trade balance has recorded a surplus for 21 consecutive months," Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Setianto, noted during a virtual press conference here on Tuesday.
Setianto remarked that non-oil and gas commodities that mostly contributed to the surplus were animal and vegetable fats and oils, mineral fuels, as well as iron and steel.
Meanwhile, the three top contributors to the surplus were the United States, the Philippines, and India.
The deputy stated that trade surplus with the United States had reached $1.96 billion. Knitted clothing and their accessories as well as non-knitted clothing and their accessories were the main commodities that contributed to the surplus.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's surplus with the Philippines was valued at $537.8 million owing to the export of vehicles and their parts as well as mineral fuels.
In the meantime, the trade surplus with India was worth $428.8 million, with the main contributors to the surplus being animals and vegetable fats and oils, as well as silver ores and ash.
However, Indonesia also experienced a trade deficit. The largest deficit was recorded in the trade with China, Thailand, and Australia.
"The amount of trade deficit with China reached $2.2 billion. The commodities that largely contribute to the deficit were machinery and mechanical equipment as well as their parts," Setianto stated.
Meanwhile, trade with Thailand experienced a deficit of $430.2 million due to the imports of plastics and plastic goods as well as sugar and confectionery.
Furthermore, Indonesia's trade with the Australia also recorded a deficit of $233.6 million, with cereals and mineral fuels being the largest contributors to the deficit.
