"(Even) after partaking in vaccinations, health protocols must still be followed in a strict manner, (especially) in the midst of a surge in cases of the COVID-19 Omicron variant, with positive cases of more than one thousand per day," he noted.

Omicron was the latest variant of COVID-19 to have spread rampantly in Indonesia, causing the cases to spike up once more. The variant is characterized by its ability to transmit rapidly, although it was less fatal than its previous counterparts.

The Health Ministry has forecast that the peak of the Omicron strain would surpass the Delta outbreak in 2021.
