Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has urged all nations to put an end to global tensions and focus on collaboration to recover the global economy quickly amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the opening of the first G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) Meeting here on Thursday, he said that all countries are connected with each other, thus the revival of one region would encourage recovery in other regions.

Meanwhile, the collapse of one region will disrupt recovery in other regions, he added.

"Hence, it is not the time to create new tensions, which disrupt global recovery or endanger people’s safety, such as the situation happening in Ukraine currently," the President remarked.

Instead, all countries must cooperate to control increasing inflation, anticipate food shortages and rising prices, overcome supply chain disruptions, as well as expedite new economic transition since no country can recover alone from the pandemic, he said.

In addition, he urged all parties to accelerate equitable and affordable digital transformation, support the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and strengthen the global health architecture.

"We must work together in dealing with these global strategic issues to get concrete and measurable results. Furthermore, we must also prevent the problems from happening again to create more inclusive and sustainable economic growth," he said.

It is hoped that the G20 FMCBG meeting can formulate synergic and concrete fiscal as well as monetary policies that can be implemented immediately to resolve global issues, he added.

"We are very enthusiastic to carry out the 2022 G20 Presidency and contribute to the international community," he remarked.

Indonesia has been holding the 2022 G20 Presidency since December 1, 2021. The theme of the presidency is "Recover Together, Recover Stronger."

The first 2022 G20 FMCBG Meeting is being implemented on February 17–18, 2022.
