Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries strengthens risk-based supervision to maintain the priority fisheries cultivation program to boost its positive impact ecologically, socially, and economically.

"The foundation is the minister's policy line that ecology as the 'commander-in-chief' to oversee the implementation of breakthrough programs in the fisheries cultivation subsector," Director General of Marine Resources and Fisheries Supervision Adin Nurawaluddin remarked here on Saturday.

Nurawaluddin explained that the minister's two breakthrough programs are aimed at strengthening the development of fisheries cultivation that is export-oriented, based on research, as well as the fisheries village program that is based on local knowledge or creativity.

Through risk-based monitoring, he urged supervisors to ensure that the activities follow the regulations.

"The risk-based management approach is implemented with the main focus of ensuring business players fulfill the regulated obligations," he stressed.

Nurawaluddin pointed out some risk-based management indicators: spatial planning, building standards, health, safety and environmental standards, mandatory reports, utilization of incentives, and investment facilities.

Meanwhile, Director of Fisheries Resource Management and Supervision, Drama Panca Putra, conveyed that responsibilities of the risk-based approach are not only held by the central government but also the local government, the special economic zone administrator, and the Indonesia Free Zone Authority.

To this end, Putra urged the officials to synergize for risk-based management in the fisheries cultivation subsector, especially pertaining to licensing and business supervision.

Earlier, Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono had emphasized the importance of monitoring marine resources and fisheries to ensure the ministry's priority programs are implemented in accordance with the provisions of the laws and regulations.

Trenggono also urged that surveillance efforts be executed strictly to encourage the business players' compliance with the existing regulations in the field of marine and fisheries.
