The minister of home affairs extended the PPKM period for the Java and Bali regions as stipulated in the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 12 of 2022, Director General of Regional Administration Safrizal Z.A. stated there on Tuesday.
"(The extension) will take effect from February 22 to 28, 2022. This is one of the precautionary steps to deal with COVID-19 in the midst of the outbreak of the Omicron variant in Indonesia as well as part of the gradual transition to a COVID-19 endemic phase while still applying the precautionary principle," he stressed.
The level was raised based on the results of evaluation using indicators set by the health minister, Safrizal Z.A. noted.
According to the ministry's data, 25 regions were categorized as PPKM Level 2, 99 regions at level 3, four cities at level 4, and none for level 1.
For the level-4 cities, people working in the non-essential sector are advised to work online from home, and only 25 percent of the employees, who have been fully vaccinated, can work from office (WFO) by applying strict health protocols.

Export-oriented industries can operate with 75 percent of staff for each shift in production facilities and factories, and 25 percent of the office administration services and by implementing strict health protocols.
Non-quarantine hotels can operate with a capacity of 50 percent and 25 percent for the use of ballrooms, fitness facilities, and meeting rooms. Everyone must be screened through the PeduliLindung application to confirm whether they have been fully vaccinated.
Restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, hypermarkets, traditional markets, and grocery stores that sell daily necessities can operate until 21:00, with a maximum visitor capacity of 50 percent.
Especially for supermarkets, hypermarkets, and shopping centers, visitors should be screened using the PeduliLindung application, and only visitors with the green category can be allowed to enter.
Children's playgrounds and entertainment venues can operate with a maximum capacity of 35 percent, except for cinemas, with a maximum of 25 percent of the capacity. Fitness centers and gyms can operate at a maximum 25-percent capacity.
Wedding receptions can be held with a maximum of 25 percent of the room's capacity and do not offer meals on the spot and by implementing stricter health protocols.
