However, industry players are still optimistic about realizing their investments and expanding their export markets.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita imposed sanctions on 5,193 companies by revoking their industrial operation and mobility permits (IOMKI), which were issued to maintain the productivity of the manufacturing industry sector during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the IOMKI of 17,910 other companies are still active.

"We expect all industrial business players to comply on reporting their IOMKI through the National Industrial Information System (SIINas) to avoid further sanctions," the minister said, in a statement here on Thursday.

He noted that the performance of the manufacturing industry has continued to rise, although currently Indonesia is facing the third COVID-19 wave due to the Omicron variant.

"However, industry players are still optimistic about realizing their investments and expanding their export markets," he said.

The increasing performance was shown by the sector’s Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) in 2021. It indicated that the industrial sector is expanding.

According to the survey conducted by the United Kingdom-based company IHS Markit, Indonesia's manufacturing PMI in January 2022 was recorded at the level of 53.7, increasing slightly compared to the PMI score in December 2021 which reached 53.5.

In addition, the export value of the manufacturing industry in 2021 reached $177.10 billion, or about 76.49 percent of total national export value.
