Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Banjarmasin city government in South Kalimantan is prepping to host the event and activities of the 2022 Proud of Indonesian Products National Movement (Gernas BBI).

Banjarmasin Office of Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries Head M. Makhmud spoke of his team having held a coordination meeting on Gernas BBI activities organized by the central government in Banjarmasin.

"The central government program (Gernas BBI) will take place in Banjarmasin, and the plan is (to hold the event at) the Siring Zero Kilometer Park beside Martapura River," Makhmud remarked in Banjarmasin on Saturday.

The office head explained that the Gernas BBI event, scheduled for July 7, 2022, will include showcasing the products of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from the province.

Makhmud affirmed that the Ministry of Agriculture had organized the 2022 Gernas BBI in Banjarmasin for nationally enhancing the products of small to medium business players in the agricultural sector.

"The plan is that the MSMEs products' exhibition will be broadcast nationally, and this is a good opportunity for Banjarmasin MSMEs," he noted.

Moreover, the Banjarmasin administration has encouraged more businesses to be established through the new business player or WUB program. Makhmud confirmed to the presence of at least four thousand new business players since 2016.

"The new business players came from various sectors. We have mentored agriculture, fisheries, and other food businesses," Makhmud stressed.

The Proud of Indonesian Products National Movement is a program supported by the Government of Indonesia to promote Indonesian-made and local products.

In 2021, one of the main events of Gernas BBI was held in Ambon, Maluku, themed principally on showcasing the richness of Maluku's spices.

The government will also spend some Rp400 trillion of its procurement budget to purchase products of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan stated at the opening of Gernas BBI on Thursday (February 24).
