Jakarta (ANTARA) - By introducing the Millennial Shrimp Farming (MSF) technology in Situbondo, East Java, the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry has encouraged millennials to partake in shrimp farming.

Director General of Aquaculture Tb Haeru Rahayu lauded the youth of Situbondo millennial pond for their commitment to applying MSF technology to farm shrimps, according to his statement here on Tuesday.

Rahayu cited the digital data recording system as the main advantage of such technology that allows for decisions to be made based on measurable technical data.

The digital technology also allows for several types of check-ups. Among the indicators that could be inspected were water quality check, biomass, daily feed, and daily growth.

With the technology, farmers will no longer need to conduct check-ups manually, he opined. This digitization is also supported by data-based cultivation applications or smart farming.

Rahayu deemed the innovation befitting for the current young generation keen on trying their hands at shrimp farming, as it employs digital technology to assist in the task, and the generation was able to adapt to the technology.

He also highlighted another advantage to the technology, which was its flexibility to be dismantled and assembled. Moreover, it could boost productivity, which could reach 28-30 tons per hectare, with a 90-day maintenance period and can reach the size of 50 tons. The increase in productivity would lead to greater profits.

He also lauded Situbondo BPBAP, the government research center for marine aquaculture, which initiated the innovation that could be utilized and implemented by the youth. National shrimp production is expected to increase.

The effort was also in line with the state's target of national shrimp production aimed at producing some two million tons in 2024.

He believed that if everyone works together, then the target could be achieved.

Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, emphasized that increasing aquaculture productivity should take into account sustainable principles in accordance with the blue economy concept.
