The president highlighted army discipline and radicalism as issues that should be addressed by the Army leadership, he remarked.
"Today, we will also discuss how we will follow up on President Jokowi's instruction yesterday, especially pertaining to vigilance with regard to the current development and effects of globalization," Abdurrachman stated at a press conference before the Army leadership meeting at the Army Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The chief of staff then reiterated the army's full support to government programs, especially related to the decision to relocate the national capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan.
"The decision is final. Hence, the Army will concur with the decision, and we are ready to move to Kalimantan," he noted.
Earlier, during the joint military-police leadership meeting on Tuesday (Mar 1), President Jokowi had instructed military and police leaders to monitor their subordinates and family members to prevent the spread of radical thoughts among military and police officers.
The president also expressed his grievances over several family members of military officers, who opposed government programs despite military and police discipline, including the obligation to demonstrate full support to the government, being extended to the officers' family members as well.
Responding to Jokowi's concern, the army chief of staff will continue to remind his subordinates to ensure that troops continue to observe army discipline in their daily activities.
"I will instruct regional military chiefs and sub-regional military commanders to be selective in inviting clerics (to deliver sermons to officers) to prevent radical thoughts from being disseminated to officers and their families," Abdurrachman remarked.
Moreover, he highlighted several agendas for the army leadership meeting comprising the presentation of army performance evaluation by Army Deputy Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Agus Subiyanto, and presentations on the food estate programme, radicalism issue, and the situation in Papua from several regional military commands.
