Palu, C Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The Central Sulawesi provincial government said it will issue a regulation for the buffer territory that will support food availability for the new Indonesian capital, Nusantara, which will be developed by the central government.

"The team from the central government has inspected the food buffer zone for the capital city Nusantara. The area is located in Talaga village, Donggala district. It was agreed that there is a need for the establishment of (food buffer zone) of 850 hectares," Central Sulawesi expert staff M Ridha Saleh said in Palu on Wednesday.

According to Saleh, the central government has assessed that the food buffer zone for Nusantara needs to be regulated by a gubernatorial decree.

If the 850-hectare food buffer area is regulated in the governor's decision, then the related team will immediately follow up on its progress, he said.

"The discussion result with the Central Sulawesi provincial government will be reported to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, then the minister will hold a coordination meeting to complete and realize everything," he explained.

The planned food-producing area in Donggala for support Nusantara's food needs will be equipped with facilities such as water infrastructure, roads, and bridges, he informed.

The central government and Central Sulawesi will also build a logistics port in Talaga village to ease the distribution of agricultural products from the buffer zone.

Furthermore, according to Saleh, the food buffer zone development in Donggala is one of the breakthroughs made by the Central Sulawesi Governor, Rusdy Mastura.

"The governor has met with the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment and said that the provincial government is ready to prepare the land in Donggala," he said.

Besides special staff from the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, some officials from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry also joined the land review, he added.
