This sociocultural target is proof that development of the nation's capital Nusantara is not just about the development of facilities or infrastructure.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Development of the nation's capital is an effort to expedite social transformation to create an advanced civilization, Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) General Budi Gunawan noted in a statement on Friday.

"This sociocultural target is proof that development of the nation's capital Nusantara is not just about the development of facilities or infrastructure," he affirmed.

Hence, Nusantara should signify Indonesia's human development vision that leads to the enhancement of absorptive capacity or capacity to accept changes, diversity, and differences.

At the start, grouping based on tribe, race, ethnicity, and religion would be inevitable, according to Gunawan.

However, through a healthy social interaction process, these people, hailing from various backgrounds, will integrate into a cohesive and advanced multicultural society, he stressed.

"In its development, the people will be active in every stage of the social interaction," he noted.

He outlined stages comprising social acquisition, assimilation, transformation, and synergy or social advantage utilization for the sake of collective prosperity.

"Once we reach the social advantage utilization stage, then it signals that development of the nation's capital Nusantara is complete," Gunawan remarked.

BIN's intelligent community assessment, so far, has been supported by extensive ethnography and sociology research on the nation's capital location, he stated.

The prospect of this social interaction is also very promising, he stated.

This is primarily since demographically and socioculturally, East Kalimantan is a heterogeneous and multicultural place.

In fact, thus far, the people of East Kalimantan have openly expressed their support to the development of Nusantara, he remarked.

Earlier, Gunawan expressed belief that relocation of the nation's capital to North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, can make Indonesia a strong and advanced nation.
