Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 2020-2024 Corruption Eradication Road Map, formulated by the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), plays a vital role in realizing Indonesia as the biggest economic power in 2045, KPK's Chief Firli Bahuri stated.

"The year 2045 becomes important because the people want Indonesia to become the biggest economic power," Bahuri noted at the start of the G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) virtual event on Friday.

"This can be achieved if we can handle various challenges within the nation, including the problem of corruption," he affirmed.

In general, the road map contains the vision of the commission and people in reducing corruption or handling all types of corruption in terms of methods, types, forms, or stages that continue to develop.

This vision is described within the three missions or strategies to eradicate corruption from 2020 to 2024.

Firstly, the KPK eradicates corruption through education, so that the people steer clear of committing acts of corruption.

Secondly, the commission conducts prevention by fixing the system to close any loopholes that some people may exploit to commit corruption.

"With a good system in place, there will be no loophole or opportunities for someone to commit acts of corruption," Bahuri remarked.

"One theory from the literature that we have read stated that corruption is caused by the failure of the system. The KPK is keen to prevent corruption by fixing the system," he affirmed.

The third strategy concerns action. Through this strategy, action against corruptors will be taken by the commission in a proportional and accountable manner for the good of the public.

In addition, KPK will take action with legal assurance, justice, and human rights as the principles that underpin the duty that the commission had fulfilled.

While the KPK has formulated strategies, Bahuri underlined that eradicating corruption in the nation is inseparable from the commission's synergy, collaboration, and coordination with all elements of society, such as stakeholders and ministries.

This is a concept that is known as corruption eradication orchestration.

"In short, we need to involve every Indonesian in the effort to eradicate corruption," he stressed.
