The number of active cases has dropped from 11,158 on February 24, 2022, to 9,667 now, head of the South Sumatra Health Office, Lesti Nurainy, informed here on Saturday.
Since the first COVID-19 case was detected in the province, South Sumatra has recorded as many as 77,979 COVID-19 cases, 65,113 recoveries, and 3,199 COVID-19-related deaths, she noted.
To reduce the number of active cases and transmission of COVID-19 in the province, the local Health Office is continuing to increase public awareness on following the health protocols, such as wearing masks, washing hands, maintaining social distance, reducing mobility, and avoiding crowds, she said.

The office is also continuing to encourage people to adopt a clean and healthy lifestyle and get fully vaccinated against COVID-19, she added.

Regarding COVID-19 vaccination achievement in South Sumatra province, Nurainy said that the number of first dose recipients has reached 92.41 percent of the 6.3 million targeted residents.

Meanwhile, the second dose has been administered to 66.52 percent of the targeted recipients, and the booster or third jab has been obtained by 3.57 percent of the targeted recipients, she added.
"People who have not been vaccinated or who have been fully vaccinated and meet the requirements are encouraged to immediately visit the nearest hospital, community health center, or places that provide COVID-19 vaccination services," she said.
The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Indonesia in March 2020. According to data from the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, as of March 4, 2022, Indonesia has recorded a total of 5,693,702 COVID-19 cases, 5,026,853 recoveries, and 149,596 deaths.
