An integrated system should be formed to handle the data spread from several citizenship applications in several related institutions.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - One of the obstacles to the provision of citizenship services is that ministry applications offering the services have not yet been integrated, an official from the Law and Human Rights Ministry said on Monday.

"There is a problem in that applications are not yet integrated," the ministry's Law and Human Rights Research and Development Head Sri Puguh Budi Utami said during a seminar on 'Losing Citizenship based on Law No. 12 of 2006,’ streamed on YouTube.

She informed that each ministry has been given the legal authority to provide citizenship services through its own applications.

For instance, the Law and Human Rights Ministry has the Electronic Citizenship Administration System (SAKE) and Immigration Management Information System (SIMKIM) applications, she said.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Affairs Ministry has an application called the Indonesian Citizens Care Portal, and the Home Affairs Ministry has the Citizenship Administration Information System (SIAK) applications, she added.

The electronic applications from these ministries have not yet been integrated, Utami highlighted.

This has led to the government experiencing difficulties in monitoring and updating data concerning the number of Indonesian citizens obtaining foreign citizenship or losing their Indonesian citizenship, she said.

A ministry researcher, Muhaimin, recommended that SAKE be developed into a citizenship administration system that is integrated and connected with the other systems.

He proposed providing a strong legal basis for connecting SAKE with other systems. The President's regulation should dictate SAKE’s existence, he said.

“An integrated system should be formed to handle the data spread from several citizenship applications of several related institutions," he advised.

He recommended that the Home Affairs Ministry respond to the President's decision and the minister's decision and stipulate the granting and revoking of citizenship status.

"Which should be responded further into the citizenship status changes process," he added.
