I hope for sufficient (food supply) during Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr, and do not let any shortages happen.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has underlined the need for ensuring sufficient food supply before Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr this year.

“I hope for sufficient (food supply) during Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr, and do not let any shortages happen,” he remarked in a press release issued here on Tuesday.

Amin made the statement while greeting hundreds of farmers and instructors across regions via video conferencing from the Agriculture Ministry.

The Vice President also called on farmers to maintain their spirits while producing food products in their regions.

The current condition of global agriculture is uncertain, he said adding that many countries are experiencing food shortages.

To this end, he underlined the need to be more prepared for meeting people’s food staple needs.

“Currently, the world is facing food supply issues. The unfavorable climate has led to problems in commodity imports. Moreover, the prices are surging in the international markets. We surely hope that the price hike during Ramadan would not cross reasonable limits,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo expressed gratitude to the Vice President for virtually attending the event, saying it would motivate farmers to produce more food crops.

“I would like to say thank you to Mr. Vice President because his presence motivates us,” he remarked.

Limpo also affirmed the food supply is secure and there is no shortage or scarcity.

However, he acknowledged a surge in prices of some commodities due to a price hike in the international market.

“As what Mister Vice President urged that we have collected and validated the data. Insya Allah (God’s will), we will have sufficient food supply this Ramadhan. With the regard to an increase in commodity prices, they were driven by the hike in global prices. It does not reflect the supply shortage. All is sufficient,” Limpo explained.
