Jakarta (ANTARA) - The number of Indonesians who have received the third or booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine increased by 360,196 to reach 12,847,312 as of Tuesday afternoon, the Health Ministry has informed.

According to the ministry, 566,367 people received the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, taking the number of fully vaccinated people to 148,587,718.

Meanwhile, the number of people receiving their first dose rose by 194,941 to touch 192,263,704.

Overall, the government is seeking to vaccinate 208,265,720 people against COVID-19 to create herd immunity against the virus.

Government spokesperson for COVID-19 Handling, Reisa Broto Asmoro, said vaccinations have been expedited for the elderly group to allow Indonesia to enter the endemic phase soon.

"Make sure that we have been fully vaccinated. Three months after the second dose is administered, bring family members, particularly the elderly (to the vaccination center), to get booster vaccination," she said.

As of Saturday, the vaccination coverage has reached 92.2 percent for the first dose and 71.03 percent for booster vaccinations, she added.
