Jakarta (ANTARA) - The ceremony to pool water and soil from Indonesia's 34 provinces by provincial governors at the new capital's kilometre zero point is emblematic of the national anthem Indonesia Raya, the Presidential Secretariat’s official stated.

“The ceremony combines water and soil (in a single jar), thereby, symbolizing our homeland as epitomized in Indonesia Raya,” Presidential Secretariat Head, Budi Hartono, stated on Monday.

The water and soil from the Indonesian provinces pooled in a large jar will be planted at the national capital Nusantara’s kilometre zero point at present located in North Penajam Paser District, East Kalimantan, he noted.

Earlier, during the ceremony, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) affirmed that the water and soil brought by governors of Indonesian provinces symbolize national unity and the unified commitment to supporting the development of the national capital Nusantara.

"We express our utmost gratitude to governors. (The procession) symbolizes our strong unity and united commitment to developing the national capital Nusantara," Jokowi stated.

The president stated that the procession marks the commencement of construction of the new capital to realize the vision of the Indonesian nation.

After the ceremony, President Jokowi and provincial governors planted trees emblematic of the respective provinces at kilometre zero of the new capital.

Monitored in a video uploaded by the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube account, President Jokowi planted a red 'meranti' tree (Shorea leprosula), while First Lady Iriana Jokowi planted a camphor tree (Dryobalanops aromatica).

Candlenut (Aleurites moluccanus), cotton fruit (Sandoricum koetjape), rasamala tree (Altingia excelsa), rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum), velvet apple (Diospyros blancoi), nutmeg (Myristica fragrans), ‘kemang’ (Mangifera kemanga), and ‘bangkirai’ (Shorea laevis) were among the trees planted by provincial governors during the event.
