Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry expedites the issuance of Good Fish Management Practices certificates required by fisheries MSME suppliers in various regions.

Acting Head of the Center for Fish Quarantine, Quality Control, and Safety of Fishery Products at Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry, Hari Maryadi, stated that the certificate was necessary to ensure that fish or fishery product raw materials were handled properly and correctly, Maryadi noted in a written statement received here on Wednesday.

Thus, it would ensure good quality of the products, he remarked.

Among the products that must be certified include cooked crab meat, fresh shrimp, fresh demersal fish, fresh pelagic fish, fresh cephapoda, dried salted fish, dried seaweed, fresh shellfish, live snails, frozen demersal fish, dried anchovies, pelleted shrimp paste, shrimp paste flour, dried shrimp flour, and dried shrimp.

Maryadi called for cooperation from business actors, as the Center for Fish Quarantine, Quality Control, and Safety of Fishery Products aimed at issuing 10 thousand certificates in order to facilitate the 2022 Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry Accelerate agenda.

"Hence, this certification ensured that the treatment of fish as raw materials is not done carelessly," he stated.

As of March 2022, the institution had recorded 106 suppliers of fishery raw materials throughout Indonesia. They had also issued 247 certificates as a guarantee for product management of fishery raw materials.

He expected that the more there were certified suppliers, it would also put emphasis on the quality of the national marine and fishery sector's products.

Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, urged his staff to push for improving exports through ways including routinely providing guidance to business actors from upstream to downstream to ensure guaranteed product quality.

Trenggono noted that quality assurance was important as an effort to increase trust of the global community in Indonesian fishery products.
