"The involvement of regional governments is crucial, so that the distribution of bulk cooking oil in traditional markets can run smoothly and prevent potential price changes above the retail price ceiling," Deputy III of the KSP Panutan Sulendrakusuma noted in a written statement here on Wednesday.
According to Sulendrakusuma, the local government's involvement will make the supervision of the price ceiling of bulk cooking oil more optimal and structured. He drew attention to some cases of bulk cooking oil being sold above the government-set retail price ceiling.
"About this (the involvement of regional governments), we have conveyed it during the coordination meeting with the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Industry, and the Food Task Force several days ago," he remarked.
Sulendrakusuma noted that if supervision of the HET policy is only conducted by the central government without involving the regional governments, then it will become difficult to control and ensure that the HET is implemented.
"If regional governments are involved, then they can order traditional market managers to participate in supervising the (bulk cooking oil) distribution and the HET. Then, regional governments only need to report to the central government. Of course, this needs coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs as well," he explained.
Sulendrakusuma said the KSP had received information that 42 producers had registered as suppliers of bulk cooking oil, with a retail price ceiling of Rp14 thousand. Hence, the KSP ensured that the availability of bulk cooking oil would be safe.
Currently, the government also continues to encourage and convince producers to participate in maintaining the continuity of supply of bulk cooking oil by registering with the Ministry of Industry through the National Industrial Information System (SIINas).
