Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chief of the Presidential Staff (KSP), Moeldoko, said that the government must consider the political year as an opportunity to speed up efforts to achieve development targets.

"The political year should be a momentum to speed up development targets, instead of slowing down for fear of public noises, or even look for safety by staying neutral," he added here on Thursday.

Moeldoko made the statement while speaking at the Routine Forum of the Public Relations Coordinating Board in Jakarta on Thursday.

The forum was held by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) and was attended by the public relations staff of ministries/agencies.

This time, the forum carried the theme "Communication Strategy for Realizing Government Public Relations Professionalism."

Moeldoko said that the government must maintain public trust so that development targets can be achieved.

For this reason, there needs to be well-established communication between the government and the community because good communication can build trust and move the public to participate in development efforts, he added.

He noted that it would not be easy to build communication bridges amid the current political situation that has caused confusion among the public.

If this situation is not handled well, it could lead to a decline in public trust in the government, he cautioned.

"This trust is our foundation to serve the public," he said.

Moeldoko further said that the uncertainty in society in the political year will be a challenge for the government's public relations actors in building professional and neutral communication bridges.

He then listed some strategic steps that could be taken to overcome the challenge, such as promoting a long-term perspective, nationalism, and humanity; highlighting the government's achievements so far; and reminding the public about the external challenges that the nation will face.
