The valuation of stocks can be affected by political and economic conditions. The trade sector, however, will not be affected since it is a real sector.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 2024 political year will not affect Indonesia's trade activities, according to Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade Didi Sumedi.

"I believe that the upcoming political year has nothing to do with it (trade)," he said at the ministry's office in Jakarta on Friday.

Trade constitutes a real sector, or a sector that is directly related to the economic activities of the people, Sumedi explained, adding that trade activities, unlike stock exchanges, are free from the effects of political conditions.

"The valuation of stocks can be affected by political and economic conditions. The trade sector, however, will not be affected since it is a real sector," he pointed out.

He asserted that the political situation during the 2024 political year would not significantly affect the prices of commodities in the country.

A shift of power will not hinder the nation's trade activities, both at the domestic and international levels, he added.

The director general further said he believes that the leadership transition next year would serve as an important event for Indonesia to intensify efforts to grow its economy through trade and investment.

Meanwhile, chairperson of the Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association (APINDO), Shinta Widjaja Kamdani, said that the world of business expects Indonesia's new leaders to formulate strong, inclusive, and adaptive strategies to stimulate economic growth.

Such strategies are expected to help Indonesia further boost international trust, she explained.

Furthermore, the next leaders are expected to support the creation of jobs, enhance people's welfare, and help Indonesia get out of the middle-income trap so that the country can transform into a developed country sooner.

The future leaders, she added, are also expected to continue effective economic policies, especially to maintain a conducive climate for businesses and investment.

"The leadership transition will serve as Indonesia's crucial point from which it can move faster and lay down a proper foundation, so we can immediately benefit from the demographic bonus expected to come in 10 years," she said.
