Jakarta (ANTARA) - An official from the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) affirmed the agency's commitment to overseeing the acquisition of land for the new capital, Nusantara, to ensure its smooth and effective development.

"The land acquisition issue will be our priority, and we will focus to address all problems in the land acquisition process. We are committed to resolving all issues promptly before August 16, 2024, without breaking any law," Deputy I of KSP, Febry Calvin Tetelepta, said in a press statement here.

He had earlier attended a coordination meeting with officials from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing and regional authorities in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Thursday.

The land acquisition process will be key for determining the progress of supporting infrastructure development for the new capital, the KSP deputy said, adding that active participation of regional authorities to address the issue is essential.

"We must relocate residents in some areas for the development of water installation and road networks of the new capital. We must implement a proper approach and ensure that residents will not be displaced. Though the central government has prepared a sufficient budget for land acquisition, money will be meaningless if residents are not willing," Tetelepta said.

The KSP deputy confirmed that the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing is currently focusing on developing the Sepaku Semoi Dam and managing Sepaku River as the water source for the new capital.

The authority will construct an 8-kilometer water pipeline to supply water from the source to the new capital and build reservoirs at 19 sites to store water, he added.

The government will also commence the development of a toll road from the port to the new capital region to enhance logistics movement and build another toll road to connect the new capital to Sepinggan Airport in Balikpapan, he informed.

"We will organize separate meetings with the Directorate General of Highways, the Directorate General of Water Resources, and the Directorate General of Human Settlements. Those processes will also involve regional authorities, the National Land Agency (BPN), and security officers to expedite the development process," Tetelepta said.
