Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited former chief of the Muhammadiyah Islamic organization Ahmad Syafii Maarif at the latter's residence in Sleman District, Yogyakarta Special Province, on Saturday.

The head of state arrived at the residence of Buya Syafii, as the former Muhammadiyah chief is popularly known, at 11:26 a.m. local time. He was greeted by Muhammadiyah Chairman Haedar Nashir upon arrival.

"This afternoon, I visited Buya Syafii Maarif. Alhamdulliah (Thank God), he is in good health. I heard that he was treated at the hospital a few days, a few weeks ago," the president noted in an official statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.

Buya Syafii was earlier admitted to the PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital in Gamping, Sleman, for an ailment.

The president was pleased to see Buya Syafii's health condition improving.

The president appealed to the entire community to pray for Buya Safii's health.

Through his statement, Nashir, who spoke on behalf of the Muhammadiyah extended family, expressed gratitude over the president's visit to see the health condition of Buya Syafii.

"I represent Muhammadiyah, members of the Muhammadiyah extended family, wherever they are, to first express our deep gratitude to Mr. President, who has spent time visiting Buya amidst his hectic activities," Nashir stated.

During the visit, the president was accompanied by Minister/State Secretary Pratikno.
