W Lombok, NTB (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate said he hoped for a substantive discussion on digital transformation at the first 2022 G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) while inaugurating the meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting is being held in a hybrid format in West Lombok District, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, from March 29–30, 2022.

"Through the meeting, we hope to have substantive results regarding the collaboration for more inclusive, empowering, and sustainable digital transformation," the minister remarked while opening the meeting.

He said he expected the results of the meeting to contribute to overcoming various challenges and problems regarding digital economy development.

The event is being attended by representatives of G20 members and several invitees, who include representatives from a number of international and national organizations and institutions.

The international organizations comprise the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Meanwhile, the national institutions include the University of Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University, and Padjadjaran University.

Meanwhile, the secretary general of the ministry, Mira Tayyiba, said that the Indonesian government, as the chair of the 2022 G20 Presidency, is optimistic that the working group can reach joint agreements on the Presidency’s priority issues.

She further said that her ministry will continue to collaborate with G20 delegates, invitees, as well as international and national organizations to realize the DEWG meeting’s results.

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all delegates who attend this first 2022 G20 DEWG meeting," she added.

Earlier, Tayyiba, who is also the chair of the working group, said that Indonesia will encourage G20 members to adopt four principles—lawfulness, transparency, fairness, and reciprocity—regarding cross-border data flow governance at the DEWG forum.
