Jakarta (ANTARA) - Commissioner of the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU) Evi Novida Ginting Manik has said that the use of the Recapitulation Information System (Sirekap) during the 2024 general elections will prevent people’s votes from being manipulated.

"The system will provide convenience for the officers to recapitulate the votes. It will also serve as a publication tool for the vote counting results at polling stations (TPS). It is fast and accessible to the public. Thus, it is also expected to keep the voting results credible,” she explained.

She made the statement at the commission’s podcast on ‘Preparing Sirekap for the 2024 Election,’ broadcast on the YouTube channel of KPU RI here on Saturday.

Furthermore, usually voting recapitulation officers are required to manually write many copies of voting reports after the voting takes place, she noted.

"It tires them so much while completing their tasks," the KPU commissioner said.

Using Sirekap, the recapitulation copies can be converted into digital data, thus it will reduce the workload on the officers, she added.

She informed that the system includes Sirekap Mobile and Sirekap Web. The KPU will provide one account on Sirekap Mobile to one officer at each TPS.

After counting votes, the officers will manually write the results on a report called C Plano. The report paper will be photographed and the picture will be uploaded on the Sirekap Mobile app.

“If the quality of the photo taken is not good, the photograph process can be repeated five to seven times. The process must be witnessed by all observers at the TPS. After being assessed as appropriate, the picture will be sent to the KPU server,” Manik said.

The uploaded data will enter the Sirekap Web and be automatically published on KPU’s election information portal, she added.

Furthermore, the web will be used by recapitulation officers at the sub-district, city/district, and provincial levels to conduct staged recapitulation.

“Thus, the data in the Sirekap system comes from the original data of the C Plano. Hence, there will be no repetition of tasks since the data will be immediately photographed, sent, and published," Manik added.
