KAI has prepared a comprehensive strategy and developed strict safety protocols throughout the testing process until the operation of the LRT laterJakarta (ANTARA) - State railway company PT KAI has readied preventive and precautionary approaches to ensure the security and safety of the Greater Jakarta Light Rail Transit (LRT Jabodebek) customers before its soft launch in August 2022.
KAI and other stakeholders have evaluated incidents during the trial period, so that similar events will not recur in future, KAI Public Relations Vice President Joni Martinus stated here on Monday.
"KAI has prepared a comprehensive strategy and developed strict safety protocols throughout the testing process until the operation of the LRT later," Martinus remarked.
Currently, he said, KAI has entered the Grade of Automation level 3 (GoA 3) trial period on cross-service, so KAI will meticulously conduct a pilot operation of LRT Jabodebek automatically.
Martinus pointed out that preventive efforts encompass conducting a series of tests, checks, and maintenance carried out periodically by competent personnel and supervised by the experts.
He deemed the precautionary measures as necessary since the LRT Jabodebek will be operated by an automatic system.
"Even without a machinist, systems automation that works well according to the program will ensure safety itself," he stated.
Furthermore, Martinus explained that this integrated automated system comprises two key components: signaling and telecommunications.
He elaborated that signaling will adjust the distance between trains and do automatic acceleration and braking while telecommunications regulate data communication, power supply, and electrical protection.
Moreover, he highlighted that the quality of human resources in all operational aspects is also prioritized by KAI by holding training.
Martinus affirmed that trained human resources can apply standard operating procedures (SOP) for emergencies, both on the train and at the station.
Moreover, the train sets are equipped with emergency contact intercoms, fire and smoke sensors, and automatic detection that can stop the train instantly in case of derailment and collisions, he pointed out.
KAI has also installed a light fire extinguisher and a glass-breaking hammer in the train sets.
Intensive monitoring will be conducted through CCTVs installed throughout the train sets and at the stations. For evacuation purposes, all LRT Jabodebek stations have connecting bridges, Martinus stated.
