Jakarta (ANTARA) - Sustainable investment could foster an ideal ecosystem to back up global economic recovery efforts after the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Investment Ministry.

Deputy for Investment Cooperation at the Investment Ministry, Riyatno, is confident that sustainable investment has a massive positive impact on the global economy, as it created an ideal condition geared towards the goals, not only for one country but also for the entire world.

Riyatno delivered the statement during an online focus group discussion, titled "How to Build Ecosystem of Sustainable Investment for Global Recovery," here on Wednesday.

The deputy cited an example on how sustainable investment in national small- and medium-scale businesses would encourage the utilization of surrounding environmental resources, empowerment of the surrounding community, and preservation of the environment.

Riyatno expounded that sustainable investment was one that offered manifold benefits, not only to push for the best economic activities but also to support environmental and social sustainability as well as the application of good governance.

Given its vast benefits, sustainable investment was raised as a priority matter in the investment sector in the Trade, Investment, and Industry Working Group (TIIWG) during Indonesia's 2022 G20 Presidency.

It was believed that the implementation of sustainable investment could improve the global economy, as it would be better equipped to face possible crises in future.

It also provided a greater opportunity for Indonesia to achieve the target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving net zero emissions by 2060.

"However, such conditions should be supported by an adequate ecosystem, such as access to finance, availability of energy, and incentives," he concluded.
