"Acceleration of digital transformation must be carried out as soon as possible in the scope of madrasah education, which is in line with one of the priority programs of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Therefore, the Madrasah Reform program must focus on encouraging this acceleration," he said in a written statement received here on Wednesday.
The digital transformation acceleration was marked by the kick-off of the ‘2022 Realizing Education's Promises—Madrasah Education Quality Reform (REP-MEQR)’ project. The activity was initiated by the Ministry of Religious Affairs with support from the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) and the World Bank, with the primary goal of improving the quality of madrasah education.
"Creating digital infrastructures that are stronger and more inclusive can increase digital literacy for madrasahs, and even contribute to the birth of qualified madrasah digital talents," Qoumas said.
The minister emphasized that during digitalization, it must be ensured that data sovereignty, especially madrasah education data, remains with the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Religious moderation agenda is also required in every REP-MEQR project activity.
Director of education, religion, and culture at Bappenas, Amich Alhumami, expressed his readiness to support efforts to improve the quality of madrasahs in Indonesia.
He expressed the hope that the project would be able to encourage equity and quality improvement of madrasahs.
The REP-MEQR project will target 34 provinces in Indonesia and cover 50 thousand madrasahs and 300 thousand teachers, educators, and management staff at the central and regional levels.
Several innovations in technology have been carried out in relation to the financial management of madrasahs, measurement of students’ abilities, sustainable professional development of teachers, madrasah principals, and education staff, as well as the development of Islamic education data systems.
