Since the start, there were no initiatives or plans to remove madrasahs or other forms of educational units from the national education system.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry has ensured that madrasahs, or Islamic elementary schools, will remain part of the National Education System Bill (RUU Sisdiknas).

“Since the start, there were no initiatives or plans to remove madrasahs or other forms of educational units from the national education system. Both schools and madrasahs are substantially inseparable from the educational tracks as stipulated in the bill,” the ministry’s educational standard, curriculum, and assessment agency head, Anindito Aditomo, noted in a press statement here on Tuesday.

However, the specific naming for SD and MI (primary schools), SMP and MTs (junior high schools), or SMA, SMK, and MA (senior high schools) will be later illustrated in the explanatory section, so that the naming will not be regulated at the law level to make it more flexible and dynamic, he explained.

The bill drafting is in line with the principles of transparency and prudence, Aditomo noted while adding that the initial draft of the bill is being revised.

The bill is drafted on the basis of inputs from various experts and stakeholders and is currently being discussed by inter-ministerial committees, he stated.

“Basically, the bill is still also in the planning stage, and we continue to receive inputs,” he noted.

As reported earlier, several people had given negative responses to the bill since it did not incorporate the word “madrasah” as stipulated in Law No. 20 of 2003 on the National Education System.
