Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi ensured preparations of the transportation sector to support a smooth exodus trip amid the 2022 Eid Al-Fitr holiday period by reviewing some points along the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road.

"All institutions and stakeholders are working together to ensure adequate preparations of the transportation sector amid the 2022 Eid Al-Fitr exodus," he stated while reviewing the condition of the Rest Area kilometer (KM) 57 in Karawang District, West Java Province, on Friday.

Sumadi inspected the readiness of facilities and infrastructure at the rest area, including the availability of fuel and toilets for travelers.

The minister called to properly manage the flow of visitors in the rest area to facilitate the movement of the vehicles.

"If the vehicles leave the rest area faster, then there will be no crowds and congestion," the minister emphasized.

Sumadi noted that the Transportation Ministry will also ensure the smooth implementation of health protocols during the holiday period.

During the review, he was accompanied by Director General of Land Transportation of the ministry Budi Setiyadi, spokesperson of the ministry Adita Irawati, Head of Traffic Corps of the Indonesian National Police Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi, and President Director of state-run toll road operator PT Jasa Raharja Rivan Achmad Purwantono.

As observed by ANTARA, Sumadi and his entourage started the review at 10 a.m. Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB) from the Rest Area KM 19, Bekasi District, Wes Java Province.

The entourage continued the inspection to the Rest Area KM 57, the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate at KM 70, and the Rest Area KM 62.

According to a survey conducted by the Research and Development Agency of the ministry, approximately 85 million people are estimated to embark on the 2022 Eid Al-Fitr homecoming trip.

Earlier, Shantyabudi had notified that the police will apply the one-way, contraflow, and odd-even plate number restriction schemes concurrently to ensure a smooth exodus trip.
