Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Didik Mukrianto, has urged the Attorney General's Office to not hesitate in taking action against those involved in the cooking oil case, no matter who they are.

"Not only (those) at the level of director general, if there are violations found committed by the members of the Trade Ministry's bureaucracy, then they must be (sanctioned) and put under legal proceedings under applicable laws, including the minister (if it comes to it)," Mukrianto said.

Everyone involved in the cooking oil case must be exposed since they have caused so much trouble for people, he added.

Were it not for them, it would be impossible for Indonesia, the largest producer of crude palm oil, to face a shortage of cooking oil, he remarked.

"Very tragic. Even the President was furious with the Trade Minister once, who could not solve (the case). The cooking oil mafia must be stopped immediately, (and traced) down to its roots," he added.

He said he supported all ongoing legal proceedings, particularly against a state official who abused their seat for their own gain.

Morally and ethically, a state official is supposed to help the people first during trying times, he added.

Therefore, the law must be enforced against everyone—no matter who they are—who put the people under stress due to cooking oil scarcity, he added.

He asked law enforcement personnel to take firm, measurable actions to create a deterrent effect as a means to protect the public from such people.

The Attorney General's Office has named four suspects in the alleged case of allocation of export permits for crude palm oil and its derivatives, including cooking oil, between January 2021 and March 2022, which triggered a shortage of cooking oil.

The four suspects have been identified as director general of foreign trade at the Trade Ministry, Indrasari Wisnu Wardhana; senior manager of corporate affairs for Permata Hijau Group, Stanley MA; commissioner of PT Wilmar Nabati Indonesia, Master Parulian Tumanggor; and general manager of general affairs of PT Musim Mas, Picare Togar Sitanggang.
