The momentum will be able to expand connection and collaboration that initially start only between the private sector and the public that exist in IndonesiaJakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has welcomed the BloombergNEF's (BNEF's) Net Zero Summit in Bali in November 2022 since it aligns with Indonesia's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality.
During the BNEF Summit Bali announcement event in New York, the United States, on Monday, the minister noted that through the event, inputs will be received from leaders of global businesses and investors to go carbon neutral.
The commitment to reaching carbon neutrality is an effort to advance post-pandemic global recovery.
"As the head of the Organizing Committee for Indonesia G20 in 2022, I welcome the first BNEF Net Zero Summit in Bali on November 12, 2022," he noted through a written statement on Wednesday.
Indonesia has a target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and to keep temperatures from increasing more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.
This is incorporated in the three main priorities of the G20 Summit in 2022, specifically in the clean zero energy transition point.
The minister expects the BNEF Summit to serve as a momentum to design strategies that utilize technology to build a more competitive future.
"The momentum will be able to expand connection and collaboration that initially start only between the private sector and the public that exist in Indonesia," he remarked.
The carbon neutral-themed summit will be attended by 300 business leaders and global and local investors to explore the possibility of growth in the clean zero energy transition and the nation's decarbonization efforts.
This has to be discussed to fight for energy transition and sustainable financing mechanism in connection with the G20 leadership.
Meanwhile, BNEF is a platform that provides insights, data, and news on the energy sector transformation.
Michael R. Bloomberg, co-founder of Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg Philanthropies, noted that Indonesia, as a nation with the largest economy in Southeast Asia, has vast potential to develop clean energy.
This will assist in transition from fossil fuels within the region.
By doing this, Indonesia can highlight the need for investment to handle climate change, create local jobs, support entrepreneurship, and grow the economy, he explained.
