Based on a study conducted by the Bahtsul Masail Nahdlatul Ulama Institute, it was stated and announced by Rais 'Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar that receiving the vaccine during the day during Ramadan while fasting does not invalidate fastingJakarta (ANTARA) - General Chairperson of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Executive Board Yahya Cholil Staquf called on citizens to get the COVID-19 vaccination despite fasting during Ramadan.
Staquf stated that the public need not hesitate because NU, through the Bahtsul Masail Nahdlatul Ulama Institute (LBMNU), had conducted an evaluation on whether vaccination was permissible by Islam for people fasting during Ramadan, and they had concluded that it did not invalidate the deed.
"Based on a study conducted by the Bahtsul Masail Nahdlatul Ulama Institute, it was stated and announced by Rais 'Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar that receiving the vaccine during the day during Ramadan while fasting does not invalidate fasting. Thus, there is no need for the public to hesitate," Staquf noted during a speech at the launch of the "1 Million Vaccine Booster" Program at the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board's Headquarters here on Thursday.

To further back up the decision as well as to convince people to partake in vaccinations, they collaborated with the National Police and the Religious Affairs Ministry to implement the 1 Million Booster Vaccine Program.
The program targets one million people all across Indonesia simultaneously and was implemented during the day.
The program was conducted at NU’s offices at the provincial, district, city, and sub-district levels. It was also expedited at several Islamic boarding schools, NU educational institutions, and churches. The general public may participate.

"Hence, we conduct this activity during the day, (as a means) to (ensure) that receiving the vaccine during the day of Ramadan does not break the fast," he stated.
On the same occasion, Religious Affairs Minister, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, noted that the vaccination program was proof that the government cared for the people and also reflected the people's love for the government.
National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, remarked that vaccination activities should always be promoted as the COVID-19 pandemic was not over. He pointed to the fact that several countries, such as China, were experiencing another spike in positive cases of COVID-19.
"With the existing conditions globally, such as China, that experienced increased COVID-19 cases again, (it shows that the pandemic) is not over," he reminded.
