LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti urged the government to take precautionary measures to prevent traffic congestion during the 2022 Eid homecoming exodus period.
Mattalitti reminded officers to prepare scenarios to anticipate heavy traffic jams on the main routes of the exodus.
"It is because this year, the number of homecomers is estimated to reach 85 million. Hence, we can imagine how congested the traffic will be," Mattalitti noted here on Monday.
He also appealed to officers to take measurable actions and reasonable rules for the people holding a short-term street market on the road that can potentially cause heavy traffic congestion.

The DPD speaker reminded police officers to handle illegal parking around the market that can worsen congestion.
Mattalitti reminded the public to obey the rules issued by the government regarding the implementation of the 2022 Eid homecoming exodus.
"I remind people to obey the rules. Homecomers, especially those using private vehicles, should not use a mobile phone while they are driving," he emphasized.
Mattalitti also stressed that people should not drive a car or ride a motorcycle while they are sleepy or feeling unwell, as such behavior can trigger traffic accidents due to a lack of focus.
Taking note of the improvement in the COVID-19 situation, the Indonesian government has allowed people to travel to their hometowns to celebrate the 2022 Eid al-Fitr.

The trips will be allowed as long as prospective homecomers have completed their primary and booster vaccinations. Those who have not received the booster dose are required to show a negative COVID-19 test result.
According to the Ministry of Transportation's survey, 85.5 million citizens will partake in the Eid homecoming exodus and 47 percent of them are estimated to travel by using means of land transportation.
