We expect that this discussion can bring positive impacts, such as rapid international trade and socio-economic growth
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Communication and Informatics Ministry invited various stakeholders to collectively raise awareness on global data management that is expected to drive growth in the trade sector internationally.

"We expect that this discussion can bring positive impacts, such as rapid international trade and socio-economic growth," Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate noted.

During the High-Level Dialogue Session: Towards Digital and Data Governance for All UNCTAD e-Commerce Week virtual event on Tuesday, he remarked that the advancement and implementation of digital transformation faced various challenges.

These challenges comprise the gap issue that can hinder equalization of connectivity access and global consensus on data regulation that took a long time.

Moreover, the lack of digital literacy and digital skills necessary to be able to utilize technology for productive activities posed a challenge.

This is despite the fact that digital transformation can expedite growth in various sectors, Plate stated.

He emphasized the importance of discussing physical network connectivity, social interconnectivity, and digital security. These should be taken into account in order to support innovative management.

At the end of the day, connectivity can support sustainable, inclusive development and reduce the risk of further fragmentation due to the internet.

"By discussing various viewpoints in this meeting, Indonesia expects that members can further discuss and identify new fields that can be agreed upon by these nations," the minister remarked.

The Indonesian government also invites global knowledge partners, including the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), to develop a comprehensive framework.

This framework aims to facilitate dialog between stakeholders, including on global data management.

"This collaborative dialog is necessary to gather the stakeholders' viewpoint on the implementation of data flow principles and support more trustworthy cross-border data flow by highlighting various aspects from this issue," Plate explained.

Within the forum, he also demonstrated Indonesia's commitment to contribute in the discussion of cross-border data flow, such as through the G20 forum.
