Jakarta (ANTARA) - State railway firm PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) is expecting the free motorcycle transport (Motis) program to reduce traffic congestion during the 2022 Eid exodus period, an official informed here on Tuesday.

"We hope that these programs can be monitored together so that they can ease the burden of traffic on land (roads)," PT KAI commercial director Hadis Surya Palapa said while releasing the first train carrying motorcycles under the Motis program.

The Motis program is also expected to ease the community's burden in participating in the homecoming, he added.

"People who only have motorcycles can be more flexible, so the 2022 homecoming can be really very felt by the community," he remarked.

Furthermore, he said that the Motis program will be held from April 26–30, 2022, and then again from May 5–9 to cater to returning travelers.

"Insya Allah, everything is going well, and (we) ask for support from the KAI Logistics Railway and all parties to work together," Palapa said.

On the same occasion, director general of railway at the Ministry of Transportation, Zulfikri, said the Motis program aims to improve the safety and comfort of travelers, especially two-wheeled vehicle riders.

Since the time it was first rolled out, the Motis program has recorded a growing positive trend in service, he added.

"In its last implementation in 2019, this program managed to transport 19,141 motorcycles for three cross-service, or drastically increased from transporting 827 motorcycles in 2013," he pointed out.

He also lauded all parties involved in the implementation of the Motis program this year.

"For the passengers and participants of Motis, we say a safe trip to the destination," he remarked.
