Prabumulih, S Sumatra (ANTARA) - The Prabumulih city police in South Sumatra arrested three men for stealing railroad tracks of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) in March 2022 and July and September 2023, according to the state-owned railway company.

PT KAI lauded the police's success in stopping the theft and saving state assets that are closely related to railroad safety, Executive Vice President of the Regional IV Tanjungkarang Office Junuri remarked.

"The cops nabbed the suspects in response to PT KAI's report on the theft of railway tracks that occurred in March 2022 as well as July and September 2023," Junuri stated here on Tuesday.

Two of the three suspects were apprehended on October 7 for having allegedly stolen R54 railway tracks at KM 310 + 6/7 between the Tanjung Rambang and Prabumulih stations in Karang Bindu Village, he remarked.

"This theft case cannot be regarded as an unimportant matter. Instead, the railroad tracks matter because the theft is closely related to the railroad safety and the safety of our passengers," he added.

Rambang Kapak Tengah Police Chief 2nd Inspector Santy Wijaya stated that the suspects remain under police custody, pending further investigation.

If the district court were to find them guilty, they would face five years' imprisonment, he stated.
