Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia being appointed to host the 7th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) indicates an improvement in the country’s resilience against disasters, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno stated.

"Indonesia is one of the countries that implements the best COVID-19 pandemic mitigation in the world," Uno noted in a statement received here on Tuesday evening.

The minister assessed that the differences in disaster mitigation attempts in handling various disasters can be adopted as a guide in preparing disaster risk mitigation plans to develop a more resilient and sustainable world as well as to expedite the recovery process.

Earlier, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had stated that the GPDRR forum will not only showcase Indonesia's capability in mitigating disaster risks but also be an opportunity to promote the tourism and the creative economy sectors of the country to the forum’s delegates.

"Hence, the Indonesian government continues to complete the preparations for the 7th GPDRR, so that the international meeting can take place safely and comfortably, as the world is still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic," the minister noted.

The government is making preparations for the implementation of health protocols and travel regulations for overseas visitors. A PCR test will be conducted on arrival. Furthermore, an antigen test will be conducted each time before the participants enter the venue and another PCR test will be conducted every three days.

"The implementation of the 7th GPDRR will become a role model in organizing international events in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially on how public activities can run well in the midst of the pandemic and how collaboration between ministries and agencies can encourage national and global economic recovery," Uno remarked.

The event will take place at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), Badung District, Bali Province, on May 23-28, 2022.

It is viewed as being a great opportunity for the government to lead various global partners to bolster collaboration for mitigating climate change and handling the pandemic.

"Thus, GPDRR will be a forum to review, share, and discuss the latest developments and trends regarding disaster risk mitigation attempts," the minister added.
