Pontianak (ANTARA) - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno gave suggestions to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in West Kalimantan to be able to penetrate international markets.

"Every industry actor should be aware that technological development does affect the quality of their products. In order to make progress and reach the international scene, we all need to continue to keep up with developments," he remarked in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, on Saturday.

Uno made the statement while attending the inauguration ceremony of the management of an MSME organization.

He emphasized the need for entrepreneurs to possess tenacity and ability to seize every opportunity in the hopes of developing their businesses.

"I myself was an employee and got laid off. Then, I tried to start a business by empowering three people. Thank God, my tenacity has helped me to continue to develop my business," he noted.

The minister then urged MSME players to enter the digital market, continue to expand their networks, create innovative products, be competitive, and keep up with latest trends.

"Business players should also make the most of technology to ease transactions. By doing so, we can penetrate ASEAN and international markets," he stated.

For entrepreneurs to be successful in promoting their products in the digital market, he deemed it is necessary to identify which digital platforms are commonly used.

Uno then affirmed that business players must possess the capability of creating digital content that can draw people to buy their products.

"Create contents that contain positive and educative things, as the public has become tired of consuming negative and political contents. Strategies are needed to promote products on social media," he emphasized.

On the same occasion, West Kalimantan Acting Governor Harison expressed hope that the presence of Minister Uno at the inauguration ceremony would motivate MSME actors in the province to develop their businesses.

"The West Kalimantan provincial government is committed to encouraging all parties to participate in creating job opportunities and developing quality MSMEs. We hope that high-quality MSMEs will stimulate the economy and accelerate development in West Kalimantan," he affirmed.
