Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy reminded bus drivers to exercise caution while driving during the 2022 Eid exodus.

"I urge the drivers to pay attention (to these aspects). Remember that you (have) responsibilities (in the form) of several dozen people (as your passengers), so do not be reckless. If you feel tired, do not hesitate to ask for a break," Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture stated while he reviewed the preparation for Eid exodus at the Jatijajar Terminal, Depok, West Java, on Thursday.

Effendy noted that the free homecoming transportation program offered by the Transportation Ministry aimed at assisting the public, so they could gather with relatives in their hometowns. The minister expected that meeting families as a joyous occasion was not disrupted due to one person's negligence.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, who was also present along with the coordinating minister for human development and culture during the observation, advised bus drivers to maintain their stamina and get adequate rest to prepare for long trips.

"We pray for our brothers and sisters to depart (and arrive) safely at their destination. Earlier, our drivers had been told to not speed up," Minister Sumadi noted.

The Directorate General of Land Transportation at the Transportation Ministry conducted free homecoming transportation service in 2022 by providing 686 buses that would take the travellers from Jakarta to Central Java, West Java, and East Java.

Director General of Land Transportation, Budi Setiyadi, stated that this year, the Transportation Ministry did not offer free transportation service to Sumatra region. He noted that Sumatra, as a route for the service, was expected to be added next year.

Apart from providing buses in the program, the ministry also dispatched 64 trucks that would transport several thousand motorcycles to Central and East Java.
