Jakarta (ANTARA) - The increase in the number of travelers using air transportation was higher compared to other modes of travel as of D-5 of Eid al-Fitr, or Wednesday (April 27, 2022), the Transportation Ministry reported.

“It can be seen that the cumulative (number of) passengers from D-7 to D-5 means that the increase in air transport passengers is the highest, which is 505,428 passengers,” ministry spokesperson Adita Irawati said in a press statement released here on Thursday.

Irawati listed five airports which recorded the highest passenger departures: Soekarno Hatta in Jakarta, Sultan Hasanuddin in Makassar, Juanda in Surabaya, Sepinggan in Balikpapan, and Ngurah Rai in Bali.

For three days, starting from Monday (April 25) (D-7) to Wednesday (April 27), the ministry recorded the cumulative number of passengers on each mode of transportation.

Based on its observation, as many as 330,169 passengers used road transportation, or buses, during the period. The five terminals with the most passenger departures were Kertonegoro Ngawi, Purboyo in Surabaya, Ir. Soekarno in Klaten, Giwangan in Yogyakarta, and Tamanan in Kediri.

Meanwhile, 244,603 travelers used rail transportation, with the highest passenger activity recorded in five operational areas (Daop), namely Daop I Jakarta, Daop II Bandung, Daop III Cirebon, Daop IV Semarang, and Daop IX Jember.

At least 182,855 travelers used sea transportation, with the highest activity noted in the five ports of Gilimanuk, Batam, Tanjung Balai Karimun, Tanjung Pinang, and Balikpapan.

The total number of passengers for all modes of transportation from Monday to Wednesday stood at 1,505,882.

The number was smaller compared to the cumulative figure of 3,402,142 recorded during the same period of 2019.

"However, this year's cumulative data is still temporary and there is still a possibility that (the figure) will increase," Irawati said.
